I’ve worked many years as a registered professional engineer. With such a broad experience base, I’ve seen many things that make me realize that the human aspects of a system are equal to or more than the hardware/software aspects. It took me 15 years to get this but you would be surprised at how many engineers don’t … ever. After all of the systems I have designed and built have come and gone, there is only one thing that actually lasts … my influence, teaching and collaboration with others.
I’ve gone from engineering to management to engineering and seen their very different value and judgment systems make them opposite thinkers. It seems I’ve spent the last part of my career instructing one about the other as I stand near in the middle.
As I have retired from my career of 30 years, I contemplate a new slice of life.
UPDATE: I teach driver’s ed to get some pocket money to pay for my photography “habit”.
